The Tollgate Inn is situated in the pretty village of Holt, on the B3107 between Melksham and the Georgian town of Bradford on Avon. Built in the 16th Century, it is full of charm with plenty of the original character. Alex and Alison moved to the free house in July 1999, transforming what was once a locals only bar into one of the countries top gastro haunts. The Main bar area boasts a lovely wood burning stove, oak floor and comfy sofas to relax in whilst you peruse the daily changing menu, or try one of our real ales. We specialise in local ales from small breweries, with four changing guest ales every day.
Menus are developed by Chef/Owner Alexander Venables who has previously won a Michelin star for his excellent cuisine. There are two dining rooms both with open fires, which are lit every day in the winter months.
The Tollgate Inn also has four luxury en-suite rooms, luxuriously furnished with antiques, fireplaces and oak beams, two have views over the White horse. Set in two acres of tranquil countryside, there is a paddock stocked with sheep and goats and a flock of chickens. We also have an outside terrace to dine in the summer months and a very pleasant, well-stocked mature garden with willow gazebos for you to relax in and enjoy.
